Women and STEM JObs Statistics
As mentioned previously, STEM is a male dominated area, it is also one of areas where the most jobs are vacant. As of 2009, only 24% of the STEM jobs are occupied by women, when there are 277,000 jobs open. The great thing about STEM jobs is that half of the STEM jobs do not require an under graduate degree, and pay up to $52,000 starting. This is an advantageous opportunity for women to step up and fill these job slots. It is approximated that by 2018 2.4 million jobs will remain vacant if the rate at which STEM jobs fill up does not increase. From looking at these statistics it can be said that the dire issue that needs to be addressed is the fact that not enough women are taking the STEM opportunities that are in need of filling.
